Brands

There are a number of brands which now make film scanners or have put the ability to scan film within their existing scanner ranges. Some of these brands you are bound to have heard of, such as Canon, but there are other reputable brands, like Ion, which you will less likely to have heard of as they focus on a smaller, niche range of products.

On this website I have covered scanners by some of the main brands that produce reliable film scanners.

If you are serious about getting a film scanner you should look through the different options available from these brands.  Some focus on standalone film scanners where as some of the bigger names above integrate film scanning into their existing flat bed scanner lines.

Ion, Luminox, Veho and VuPoint are the companies to look at if you want a small, film scanner.  These 4 firms only have a small product range which include film scanners.  This means that a large amount of their time has been spent developing, testing and building these scanners.  This should be pretty reassuring!

Epson, Canon and the other big digital brands have a good pedigree and you would find it hard to go wrong with any of their products.  You can buy them from most high street stores, but you can usually get them cheaper online – it also saves having to deal with some teenage sales assistant and having to cart it home.
